About the directors

Susan Garner is the founding director of Garner Willisson, formerly Susan J Garner & Associates Pty Ltd.  Susan has qualifications in science, public policy and public health. She has 30 years of experience across a range of policy issues for health and ageing, welfare, environment, education and social and human services.

Susan has worked in the public and private sectors including as a consultant, policy analyst, manager and researcher.  She has a theory driven approach to evaluating complex interventions using a range of designs and methods to measure impact. Her main interests are developmental and realist evaluation, and ways to influence and improve policy and practice.

Susan’s key skills include evaluation of complex policy issues and programs, strategic stakeholder engagement, program management, and workshop facilitation.

Karen Garner has qualifications in law, business and the humanities. Karen became a director of Garner Willisson in 2014.  She brings business, financial, governance and legal expertise to consulting projects managed by the company.

Prior to 2014, Karen was in private practice as a commercial and regulatory lawyer in the United Kingdom and Australia.  The practice involved business development from conception, structure and modelling, promotion and incorporation through all business development phases from start-up to consolidation, acquisition and merger to disposal or dissolution.

Karen’s key skills are strategic thinking, forensic analysis and investigation, managing and overseeing the implementation of strategies for change and dispute handling.
